Insomnium.

Hi,

As i said in the previous post, Insomnium is my favourite melodeath band, my favourite band of all time..
For those who don't know them ( very unlikely ), i will give you a heads up! ( Ofcourse the following info comes from the official Insomnium website )

Formed in 1997 in a town called Joensuu, Finland, Insomnium started of with two demo's and signed to the label Candelight Records UK.
Founding member Markus Hirvonen, Ville Friman and Niilo Sevänen attached Ville Vänni to the band.
Their debut album In the Halls of Awaiting (2002) introduced a young and fierce band that combined aggression and violent riffing to melancholic atmosphere.
With Since the Day It All Came Down (2004) the band moved further from the beaten paths of the genre. Album was darker, more challenging and the songs took meandering pathways:
Third album Above the Weeping World (2006) was the breakthrough. Compositions and arrangements had reached a new pinnacle and the overall sound was heavier and richer. Album was tighter, meaner and more menacing than ever. Long-time friend Aleksi Munter did the epic keyboard parts which added a whole new layer to the songs. Album took the 9th spot on the Finnish album charts, Mortal Share video blared in MTV and Insomnium made long tours in Europe and North America with bands like Amorphis, Katatonia, Enslaved and Satyricon.
Across the Dark (2009) shows a band that knows its strenghts but isn’t afraid to evolve. Crux of the music is still melodic death metal but nuances are giving it a unique flavor. Keyboards are overwhelmingly epic and there are some stunning clean vocals by Jules Näveri. Bit of folk metal, pinch of doom, some thrashing, a whole lot of timeless melodies and progressive twists and there you have it: ingredients of the masterpiece.

Since then they have released 'One for sorrow' ( 2011 ) and very recently 'Shadows Of The Dying Sun' ( 2014 )

I have seen them three times so far, first time was the best one of course ..
The 5th of November me and my friend saw Insomnium in Helsinki for their One for Sorrow release show.
That was one legendary night with an epic setlist!
My favourite song?

It's hard to say what songs are their best .. but if i really have to choose it would be this one!

It's a brief introduction to the band, since i'm making this blog for school, but for more info go to www.insomnium.net !

Hi,

For a task at school we have to make a blog;
And why not one that will have some meaning to it! Ofcourse it has to be about you're favorite hobby.
Mine is music, like many others i like to listen to all sorts of music but especially metal.

In this blog i will post some stuff about my favourite subgenre of metal; Melodic death.

For people who don't know alot about metal, the name of the subgenre, Melodic 'death' might be weird, but actually the genre offers you some hard guitar work mixed with beautiful melodies, grunt and clean vocals.
This is what Wikipedia says about Melodic Death Metal, or just Melodeath.

Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that combines elements from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) with elements of death metal. The style originated and developed in Sweden (pioneered by At the Gates, Dissection, Dark Tranquillity and In Flames) and the United Kingdom (pioneered by Carcass) during the early and mid-1990s. The Swedish death metal scene did much to popularize the style, which soon centered in the "Gothenburg metal" scene in Gothenburg, Sweden.

My favourite bands are Insomnium, Swallow The Sun, Be'lakor, Dissection, At The Gates and Dark Tranquility,.. Ofcourse there alot more bands than that!

This has been a small intro into the genre, but maybe this will grow into a bigger page.. Who knows!

The following post will be about Insomnium!
